Design Museum Gent

Design Museum Gent is closed. The museum is getting a new wing and a complete renovation. By the end of 2024, all the buildings will be seamlessly connected and there will be extra space for temporary presentations, workshops, lectures and events, space for art handling and logistics, proper sanitary facilities and an elevator.

A project with great and sustainable ambitions, a real bridge between the city, visitors and the design world. In addition to the extra multifunctional space, there will be a museum café, a terrace, a new reception area and a shop. An open and climate-conscious extension, without barriers, where you can drop in for free for a first introduction to the various aspects of design.

Fortunately, part of the collection will remain on display during the works at other locations in Belgium and abroad. Frac Grand Large in Dunkirk is the first stop. The exhibition Ship of Fools brings together various odd objects from the Design Museum Gent collection, together with a selection of films and other works by artists. Followed in autumn by Hotel Hannon in Brussels, where the museum is exhibiting its art nouveau collection.
